Sarasota High: Student Success Starts With Getting Students In Class.

The Challenge

Even with the plethora of different courses, opportunities, and learning environments meant to bolster student interest in school, Sarasota High School still had consistent issues with students coming to school and getting to class on time. School leaders looked to zero in on chronic absenteeism and tardies in order to combat this problem, but they needed a system to help do it.

The Results (Data Points):

0
Students with Zero Tardies for a Whole Quarter
0%
Decrease in the Number of Students with Chronic Absences in One Year
  • Created a consistent and fair process for reinforcing the school’s tardy policy used by all teachers and staff.

  • Eased the burden off of teachers by providing an easy, efficient, and less disrupting means to process tardy students .

  • Motivated students to get to class more than ever before, with clear consequences and accountability.

  • Transformed the school’s climate by providing more positive interactions and less negative ones.

The Solution

  1. Identify goals and specific behaviors to be addressed through an online behavior management system.
  2. Provide consistent and immediate corrective action to decrease absentee and tardy behaviors.
  3. Acknowledge and reward identified positive behaviors to encourage interest in school while reducing unwanted behaviors.
  4. Track and monitor student data to intervene when necessary and prevent further issues with missed instructional time.
